Immerse yourself in a dynamic, interdisciplinary education in health, movement, and clinical science designed to build your foundation in the industry. Guided by faculty whose research explores metabolic function, cardiovascular health, neuromuscular performance, and chronic disease prevention, students study in advanced labs and gain access to internships with one of nearly 200 hospitals, schools, community health organizations, or sports performance centers in Boston and beyond. The curriculum also meets the prerequisites for medical, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, and public health graduate programs, positioning you to improve lives through clinical practice, wellness, or research.

Learning Outcomes

The primary goal of the Exercise and Health Sciences undergraduate program is to prepare competent entry-level Exercise Science professionals in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. In addition to this goal, students will meet the fullowing objectives throughout the core curriculum: 

  •  Demonstrate knowledge of core and concentration specific EHS courses:
    • Identify chronic health conditions and disparities associated with physical inactivity and sedentary behavior. 
    • Convey the most current recommendations for physical activity.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the physiulogical response to physical activity and exercise and associated health benefits.
    • Understand the correlates of physical activity and sedentary behavior. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply scientific theory to practice in humans:
  • Design and implement a health behavior intervention, based on scientific theory, to improve health and fitness.
  • Demonstrate the ability to assess health related fitness.
  • Design individualized exercise programs for low and moderate risk populations.
  • Demonstrate ability to evaluate literature related to exercise and health sciences:
  • Gather and analyze relevant peer-reviewed literature.
  • Draw conclusions through synthesis of the literature.
  • Convey knowledge of literature related to the exercise and health sciences in oral and written format.

University Requirements 

College of Nursing and Health Sciences Requirements for Bachelor of Science

Major Requirements

Complete 63 credits from at least 17 courses including 13 required courses, three electives, and an internship requirement (one twelve-credit internship course or one six-credit internship course and two electives).

Minimum grade: A minimum grade of C- is required for all major courses.
Pass/fail: No courses taken pass/fail may be applied toward the major.

Accreditation

The Exercise and Health Sciences B.S. program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon their commendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Exercise Science (CoAES).
